Wash vs Detail - What’s the Difference?

Every time that we look to our dirty vehicles, we have a choice to make about how we clean them to remove road grime, dirt, bugs, and other debris that collects from normal use on streets, roads and highways every day. What options are available to us? Understanding the benefits and drawbacks of each is important to ensuring the long-term maintenance and beauty of any car, truck or motor vehicle.

Self-Wash – You can get out your weekend change of clothes, fill your bucket with suds and get to cleaning your car yourself! You may be missing some (if not most) of the fine tools and brushes that a detailer uses to clean every crevice and surface inside and out of your vehicle. Your soap may have some of the benefits of carnauba wax and other protectants, but improper preparation and application of these products can sometimes do more harm than good. Wiping down windows with glass cleaner to get rid of finger prints, bird droppings and more but leaving smudges and streaking.

That’s if you have the tools and the convenience of doing it in your own driveway! You may have to use a self-wash station with a pressure washing wand to only broadly clean the outside of your vehicle. As far as getting a deep clean out of the coin-operated vacuums? You may be settling for “mostly clean” instead of actually clean.

Auto Car-Wash – There's the local car-wash down the street. While seen as an effective and economical option with some “membership” perks available, you’re paying for a quick wash of your car, with materials and methods that are designed for mass production of cleaner vehicles over attention to detail. A classic muscle car is treated the same as a modern SUV in the computer that runs these systems, so paints of different ages and materials may not clean as effectively or worse, strip existing treatments and protectants off the surface.

Detailing – Trusting your vehicle’s cleaning maintenance and treatments is the ideal way to ensure that the right tools, right cleaning and protection products, and right methods are used to get the deepest, most thorough clean inside and out for your money. Having your car on a regular detailing and wax/sealant schedule will ensure that sun and road damage are minimized through your vehicle’s regular use. Your detailer will know your personal preferences and how you like your car to be kept through regular use and can cater to your needs as specified and communicated.

Scheduling and attending a detailing for your car, truck or SUV is simple and often can take only 1 to 2 hours for a full detailing with express packages starting below $100. With the convenience of come-to-you service available with Corey’s Mobile Detailing, getting that showroom ready clean is easy and affordable with quality results. Schedule your visit today.
